Kristen’s first mountain bike was a red hardtail she picked up to replace a stolen commuter bike she was using to get to rowing practice in 2004. One thing led to another and she found herself on a ride more suited to her new bike’s capabilities. But it wasn’t until a coach helped her break down skills like log-overs, cornering and the mysteries of momentum that she got completely hooked.
She joined the University of Toronto varsity mountain bike team and started racing. She worked her way up to the Elite level, competing in the Ontario Cup Series, the Canada Cup Series, as well as events like 24hr MTB Racing and the famous Test of Metal in Squamish, British Columbia. In Toronto, she was also a spin-class instructor for the past two years, working with clients to help them reach their fitness goals.
Kristen is new to the San Diego area and looking to give back to the sport that’s given her so much enjoyment, fitness and sanity. She hopes to continue making friends who share a love of mountain biking and be there for the ride as they conquer their challenges and feel the joy.
When she’s not riding, Kristen is trying to figure out surfing, spending time with her new husband or shredding on her skiis or snowboard. A writer by trade, she is also working with some friends and partners in the cycling industry to communicate the latest and greatest in technology and apparel.
