ADAPTIVE MODULE | 1-DAY ADAPTIVE SPECIFIC DEVELOPMENT MODULE
Adaptive Mountain Biking is an exciting and emerging sport, providing a unique opportunity for persons with disabilities to enjoy the outdoors, stay active and meet other people. With recent advancements in adaptive bike design and technology, particularly with e-bike motors, the time for people to try adaptive mountain biking has never been better.The goal of this PMBIA Adaptive Module & Booklet is to provide certified PMBIA instructors with the tools required to provide safe, fun, learning and riding experiences for students with disabilities. This has been made possible in collaboration between PMBIA and WASP (Whistler Adaptive Sports Programs), with support from CADS (Canadian Adaptive Snowsports).PMBIA’s mission has always been to help get more people on bikes, through, safer, better learning experiences. This Adaptive Instructor Module empowers the industry to continue to build on its inclusive culture, enabling all persons, of all abilities, to enjoy the mental and physical health benefits of riding bikes on trails.DESCRIPTIONThe one-day PMBIA Adaptive Teaching Module is a professional training module to further the skills and knowledge of PMBIA Level 1 (or higher) Instructors, specifically for teaching adaptive riders on three wheeled, electric, adaptive mountain bikes. This training module is a great introduction into the world of teaching Adaptive mountain biking.Instructors will spend the day exploring the Level 1 content in more detail, as it relates to guiding and teaching adaptive riders. More time will be spent discussing the different teaching considerations for the different physical and cognitive considerations of adaptive riders, along with a detailed workshop covering adaptive e-bikes and equipment.Instructors will see and practice different teaching scenarios as well as explore trail and guiding options, specific to adaptive bikes and riders. The training module provides access to all the PMBIA Course Materials and Adaptive Teaching Booklet and Worksheet.Course Context
This Adaptive Module can be used in a variety of ways by any level of certified PMBIA Instructor... the PMBIA Technical Team have spent years working in the adaptive space, engaging and collaborating with adaptive riders and coaching organizations to bring you this educational and engaging training opportunity. This module can be used in a variety of ways by all levels of PMBIA Instructors:- PMBIA Instructors who want to learn more about working with and teaching adaptive organizations
- PMBIA Instructors looking to learn more tools and techniques to teach a variety of adaptive riders on different equipment.
- PMBIA Instructors looking to add further teaching skills and concepts, in preparation for their next level of PMBIA Certification
- PMBIA Level 1 Certification, as a minimum
- Current PMBIA Membership. Membership is not included in the cost of the Adaptive module and must be purchased separately.
- Completed Adaptive Teaching Worksheet (available upon registration)
- A minimum of 36 months mountain biking experience.
- 40hr Wilderness First Aid Certification, or equivalent, strongly recommended (but not required to take the course)
- A genuine interest and desire to work with Adaptive riders.
